Home life...

We had the unique opportunity to spend two nights in the family home of one of our employees. Many of these photos are observations around the home compound.
I call this a smoke pot. Hot coals were placed in the bottom of the pot. Scented sticks were placed on top of the coals and produced scented smoke much like incense. I believe this was used to help keep away the flies. The flies were a major problem.

This is one of the scented sticks.

I observed the morning ritual of the lady of the house. Hair brush/comb, scented oil for the legs and feet, and a cup of hot tea. Hot tea is served in what in the US would be a small juice glass. They like their tea with lots of sugar!

I have to admit I had a slight problem with the bathroom facilities! Never quite figured out if there was a system by which you knew whether someone was already behind these thatch walls. It was especially challenging (personally) after dark when the roaches seemed to be crawling all around the opening.
