I just finished reading this Christian novel, the first in what I think is a 2-part series called "The Santee Series". I really liked it and finished it in 4 days!
I've done this before, but I just want to capture a couple of quotes somewhere where I won't lose them before I let this book go...
One of the characters (Ted) is a pianist and church music minister. The author thanks John G. Elliott www.johnmelliott-music.com. I want to remember to check out his web page.
pg. 55 "...always, from beginning to end, it was a spontaneous composition never heard before nor reproduced again. It was a new creation and flowed from the depths of the musician's spirit to the place where anointed music goes." "...Ted lost himself in the music and found himself in the manifest presence of God--the place where all the praise of a lifetime is not enough."
I haven't played by ear or composed anything on the piano in my entire life, but I can relate to playing piano as a way of worship and prayer...even if I have to look at music.
Another character is a female lawyer (Alexia) who is getting over a broken engagement.
pg. 228 ..."...'Most of my time is spent helping marriages end, not trying to figure out what went wrong or saving them. In my own situation, I think my greatest hurt was to my pride.' Ted shook his head. 'Then he wasn't the right man for you.'
'Why do you say that?'
'Because the link between the two of you was in the mind, not the heart.'
Puzzled, Alex said, 'I still don't understand.'
'Our minds are offended when we're rejected. Out hearts break when we lose someone we treasure. You're right. If your primary wound was to your pride, you can go on with your life. God spared you from making a big mistake by getting married to the wrong person.'"
This was a really good book and I'm glad I brought book two with me!
