Darfur Base

I would describe our base compound in Darfur as "open air". There are interior rooms and exterior corridors. There are a few trees, lots of small lizards of some type or another, and lots of birds who often find themselves in the interior rooms; oh, and did I mention mosquitoes? Had one little bird come into the TV room several times this morning - maybe it wanted to get caught up on the news?

A view from inside includes barbed wire, greenery, and blue sky!

Shower on right, toilet on left. I actually really enjoyed my shower this morning. It has been windy and so while it is very hot outside the air is moving. You feel the breeze through the opening at the top of the shower door so there was no accumulation of steam. There was hot water available, but I definitely didn't need it. The "cold" water is probably warmed by the sun enough to be just right.

One of the exterior corridors I referred to earlier.
